The Deep Healing and High Calling of God\'s Great Love

The following excerpts are from a sermon I delivered on September 11, 2011 at First Baptist Church, Tewksbury, Massachusetts, where I am honored and humbled to serve as pastor. The sermon, "The Deep Healing and High Calling of God's Great Love," is inspired by John 3:16: "For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life."

"The salvation offered in John 3: 16 is not just about our souls being saved from the peril of separation from God in the afterlife, but ourselves being saved from the peril of separation from God right now, in this life."

"Where there is woundedness there is God's love, and the deeper the wound, the deeper the love. No matter how deep the hurt, God's love is deeper."

"The wave of hatred and violence in the world is overcome by a greater wave: the wave of God's relentless love in the world."

"The amazing wonder--too wondrous for words--is that since God is everywhere, we are continually being loved by God from the inside out, and from the outside in. Such a wonder must not go to waste. Let us resolve to be more constantly open and receptive to God's continual love."
